Wolfe Tones na Sionna captured the U16A Hurling title when defeating Clarecastle in a super final played in Sixmilebridge on Sunday last, 6th October 2013.
The Shannon boys led at half time 1-6 to 1-2 and after a blistering start to second half where they scored 6 unanswered point they seemed to be set for an easy trip to collect the Fr Michael McNamara Cup. However a gallant magpies outfit fought back strongly and scored 1-7 without reply to tie the game at 2-9 to 1-12. Wolfe Tones quickly regained the lead until to be pegged back again and with 7 minutes remaining the cup was there for either to side to claim. Then the Shannon sides showed their mettle and grabbed the game by scruff of neck and scored 5 superb points on the trot to finish the game 1-18 to 2-10
This was the fist U16A title captured by Shannon since 1998, and our first time to claim the prestigious Fr Michael McNamara Cup, a cup incidentally presented by Wolfe Tones na Sionna to Bord na nOg Iomaint in memory of the late Fr. Mc, a great leader in Wolfe Tones juvenile section prior to his sudden passing in July 2009
